Identifying Your Asthma Attack Symptoms

Asthma attack symptoms are very common across all asthma types. The one exception is cough variant asthma which only has one symptom. With all other types of asthma, your symptoms will be very similar.

What will be different is how bad the symptoms are and how long they last. Your asthma has unwritten rules about what symptoms it can force you to have. But there are no rules about how bad or how long your asthma symptoms can be.

The Typical Asthma Attack Symptoms

If you think you are having an asthma attack, then these are the symptoms that you will have:
  • Coughing - The typical cough during an asthma attack will have gunk coming up when you cough. Some other words used for gunk might be mucus or phlegm.
  • Wheezing - This will remind you of a whistling sound. When you whistle, you put your lips very close together and blow through that small opening. During an asthma attack, you are trying to breathe through a very small opening so you get a similar effect.
  • Chest Tightness - It can feel like your are having a muscle cramp in your chest. It might even get painful.
  • Shortness of Breath - You are having trouble breathing. You can't take a deep breath so you might be taking short, fast breaths instead. You do not get enough oxygen into your system breathing like this.

Some Other Asthma Attack Symptoms That You Might Have

  • Your Fingernails and Lips Might Turn Blue - This means you are not getting enough oxygen into your system.
  • Your Neck Muscles Might Get Very Tight - You might find yourself having trouble trying to talk.
  • Panic Might Start To Set In - As your situation continues to worsen, your anxiety can reach extreme levels. In other words, you are getting really scared!
If these are not the symptoms you are experiencing, then they are not from an asthma attack.

Asthma Treatment Options

What treatment options are available to make sure that you never have any asthma attack symptoms again?

You basically have three options when it comes to your asthma:

  • Identify your asthma triggers and never get exposed to them. If you do that, your problem is solved. check out the asthma prevention page for help with avoiding your triggers.
  • Take prescription asthma medications - These medications do not attempt to cure your asthma. They do attempt to limit or control your asthma attack symptoms.

Coinsider this typical scenario - You take one of the prescription asthma medications to control your asthma. But since they don't work very well, you have to carry an emergency inhaler with you at all times. This is for those times when your primary medication doesn't work and you have an asthma attack anyway. For those times when your emergency inhaler doesn't work, you need to go to the emergency room for some even stronger drugs.

And did you know that all prescription asthma medications have potentially dangerous side effects? The more frequently you take them and the higher doses that you take all increase the risks of getting those dangerous side effects.

  • Use a natural asthma treatment - Natural asthma treatments and remedies will actually work to cure your asthma instead of just trying to control your symptoms. And they do it without any dangerous side effects to worry about. If you want to get rid of your asthma forever, then you will want to check these out.
