Asthma Prevention TipsAsthma prevention is not that hard to figure out. If you want to prevent ever having another asthma attack, just use one of the natural cures for asthma to get rid of your asthma. If you no longer have asthma, you won't have any more asthma attacks. Now that wasn't so hard was it? Okay, since a natural cure could take a week or two before you are cured, we can go over some asthma prevention tips that you can use in the meantime. Since asthma attacks are caused by you coming in contact with one of your asthma triggers, why not just stay away from those triggers? Asthma Prevention Regarding Pollen
When we think of pollen, we usually think that if we stay indoors we are safe. Not true. Pollens can very
easily get into our homes through doors and windows so we need to take steps to reduce the amount of
pollen in our homes as well as to limit our exposure to it outside. Here are some steps you can take
to limit how much pollen you come into contact with:
Asthma Prevention Regarding Dust Mites
Dust mites are tiny 8 legged creatures that feed on dead skin flakes from humans or pets. They
are too small to see but their waste matter and even their rotting bodies can be a huge problem if
you have asthma or allergies. And where do you think these cute little creatures love to spend time
feasting on delicious skin flakes? In your bed of course! The average bed contains about 2 million dust
mites. They love warm humid places such as mattresses, pillows, carpeting, furniture, drapes, stuffed
animals, etc.
You will probably never completely get rid of dust mites, but here are a few of the things that you
can do to limit your exposure to them:
Asthma Prevention Regarding Certain FoodsYour big challenge will be to figure out whether specific foods cause you to have an asthma attack. Remember, it could be just about anything, even food additives or preservatives. It will be a lot easier to figure out if you try to limit the different types of things you have for each meal or snack. Then write down everything you eat so that if you have an asthma attack it will be easier to determine which food is the bad guy.Asthma Prevention Regarding Air Pollution
The first thing you will need to determine is if the pollution causing your asthma attacks is indoor
or outdoor pollution. A good starting point would be to have one good clean place where you don't have any
asthma symptoms. It could be at
home, or maybe at work if you work in a good clean office. You could
always go spend some time somewhere like a hospital, etc. The key is to find out when your asthma
symptoms get worse. Is it only when you go outside? Then determine if things like bad smog days or
something else about certain days make your symptoms worse.
Use a similar strategy for things like aerosol sprays, exhaust fumes, paint fumes and similar things. If you have a place where your symptoms don't bother you, it will be much easier to identify a specific asthma trigger when all of a sudden you start having some symptoms. Take notice of everything going on around you. Maybe you notice the smell of fresh paint, or someone was just doing some cleaning with something like lysol spray. Asthma Prevention Regarding Animal DanderTo find out if this is your problem, you will need to go and spend time somewhere that has no pets of any type, since all pets give off dander. Dander is just flakes of skin that fall off your pet. Dust mites (another asthma trigger) just love dander as a food source. If it turns out that animal dander is one of your triggers and you don't want to get rid of your pet, you are going to have to become a clean freak. You can't really see this dander so you are going to have to assume that anywhere your pet has been, some dander has been left behind.Asthma Prevention Regarding MoldMolds release spores into the air and these spores might be one of your asthma triggers. Molds like dark humid areas like basements and bathrooms, but can grow in lots of different places in your home. Here are some tips regarding mold:
Asthma Prevention Regarding CockroachesCockroaches provide a double whammy. Both their bodies and their waste droppings could be an asthma trigger. So not only will you have to get rid of any live roaches, but you will also have to get rid of the dead ones along with what they left behind.Asthma Prevention Regarding SmokeWhat do you think is the number one indoor air pollutant? Tobacco smoke of course. This is probably the easiest asthma trigger of all to get rid of. Just don't allow anyone to smoke in the house. Central or portable air purifiers work to get rid of not only smoke particles, but also most other airborne particles as well. These are a great investment but you will need to get a good quality system with HEPA or ULTRA filtration properties.Finding Out Your Asthma TriggersIn the beginning you won't even know what your asthma triggers are. Unfortunately, you can't figure them out until after they cause all those nasty things to happen. So every time you have an asthma attack you need to make note of what you were doing, eating, feeling, etc. and compare it with the list of possible triggers. It might take a while to narrow it down but it is something you really need to do.
